At this time of year we register a huge number of students looking for summer work. For many this will be their first job which can be extremely daunting. We were all young once (although it might feel like a lifetime ago!) and can remember interview nerves, so should your bring a parent or guardian along with you when you come in to register?

New £1 Coin March 2017

As many of you may be aware, the £1 coin came into circulation yesterday. The pound coin has not been changed in 30 years. It is a twelve sided coin and came into circulation Tuesday 28th March 2017. The picture on the coin represents the United Kingdom with the English rose, Wales with the leek, Scotland with the Scottish thistle and for Northern Ireland, there is the Shamrock which are all within a crown. National Minimum Wage Increase April 2017

The national minimum wage is being increased The current national minimum wage for over 25 year olds is £7.20 per hour. This is now being increased to £7.50 an hour.  For 21-24 year olds, the national minimum wage is currently £6.95 an hour and will be increased to £7.05. 18 to 20 year olds are earning £5.55 but this is also being increased in April to £5.60. 16-17 year olds are currently being paid £4.00 an hour and in April this will be increased to £4.05. Apprenticeship national minimum wage is £3.40 per hour and will be £3.50 per hour in April.  These rates will change for the 1st April 2017. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all from Alpha People! We hope you had a great time relaxing over the festive period, celebrating with loved ones. And so, back to work we go and here at Alpha we start 2017, sadly, by saying goodbye to our dearest Melanie who worked at Alpha as our Office and Social Media Administrator. As much as we miss her here in the office, she has gone onto new and exciting adventures and we wish her all the luck in the world. We now welcome bubbly Siobhan to our team. She has been temping with us and will be covering Melanie’s position.  So a new year and a warm welcome to new staff. Wishing everybody health and happiness for 2017....
